Every kitten should have her own set of dishes. A variety of styles is available at most pet supply out – lets, or even grocery stores. Your kitten probably won’t care whether her bowls are plain or elaborate, but a number of cute styles are available to tickle any pet – lover’s fancy.A minimum of two bowls is needed. One holds water, while the second is for food. Some owners settle for one dish for water and use disposable paper plates for each kitty meal. The perfect cat dish is heavy enough that Kitty won’t have to “follow” it all over the room as she eats, and it is balanced so that it won’t tip over. Shallow, wide bowls that have plenty of whisker room get feline raves. Cats don’t like scrunching their whiskers or getting themselves dirty by diving headfirst into a deep bowl. Be sure to buy bowls that will still please your kitten when she’s adult size. Food dishes must be easy to wash to remove odors that might offend delicate cat noses. Plastic dishes are hard to get clean, and some cats may have allergic reactions to them. Stainless steel dishes won’t chip, crack or break; they are easy to clean and dishwasher – safe; but they may be too lightweight. Ceramic or glass dishes are much better – and answer the needs of most cats. Resource: The Essential Kitten by Betsy Sikora Siino
